Traveler's Regrets

7107 Islands and I've only been to a few. I know there are more to see but I kind of miss the places that I've been to and I absolutely want to revisit and rediscover most of them.

1. Biliran - I don't think this place is advertised enough! During my short stint as a Nutrition Associate (Nestlé's equivalent to a Medical Representative), I was priviledged (I didn't feel this way back then) to be assigned in Ormoc, Leyte. I covered the areas of eastern part of Leyte, Southern Leyte and Biliran.
Crossing the Biliran Bridge for the first time was a feast to my eyes! I wanted to pullover and just enjoy the view left and right. It was absolutely breathtaking! Unfortunately, I was super boring that time and too afraid to explore. I could've used the company car to explore! But I didn't! Such a waste of opportunity =(

Seriously - I got an entire island to explore, plus so easy to visit other neighboring provinces.
2. San Juan, La Union - I know I have proclaimed my love for SJ elyu in my previous post so I'll just keep this one short.
I still want to learn to surf so that's one reason. And who wouldn't want to sit by the shore at sunset and just listen to the waves crashing? "Chill" is the best description of enjoying San Juan, La Union.

3. Camotes Islands, Cebu - Well, poor planning for a newbie traveler - I didn't allot enough time for our island tour. There was so much more to see that we didn't get to visit cause of time constraints.
Going over my list makes me hungry for some beach time! When did I become an "Island girl"?! Thank God I'm born in The Philippines (even though I do take it for granted). I cannot really promise myself that I'd travel more this coming year, but I guess in the future I better be a wiser traveler.

Vz CS Week Superhero Style

"This CS week is legit" – a feedback from one happy camper. Customer Service Appreciation Week is an international event celebrating and recognizing the importance of providing excellent service to both our internal and external customers. Verizon Alabang NOC joined the celebration with this year’s theme Super Hero Difference: Going above and beyond the call of duty for our customers – like a Super Hero!”. It was held last October 6-10 and everyone showed tremendous support! Like the previous years, different activities, food and games were enjoyed by the entire center. Okay, hold on. I will make kwento the way I would since this is my personal blog, but I submitted my “write up” for the company newsletter – most of which included the words in this post, but obviously not the Tagalog side comments.

Going back, a week-long event like this does not unfold on its own. A brilliant idea was offered by one of the supervisors to have representatives from each line of business be part of organizing the event as well as having representatives take charge of the various activities to be held contrary to what we’ve been practicing in the previous years when only one or 2  group/s took charge. A committee was formed and they put a lot of effort in preparing for the event; coming up with activities and making arrangements with suppliers to make sure everyone will have a good time. I heard some food supplier fiasco story – let’s just say it involved one “happy” bee.

Despite that, it was a fantastic week! Each day, there was a fun game to play and game masters changed daily per LOB which encouraged the entire center to be more involved. If only I had done better with the “Play by a thread” game – I know I could’ve done better. Oh regrets -_-

This year’s daily activities were also very engaging; I mean who doesn’t like to sing their hearts out with the Videoke right? (ilabas ang listahan ng videokeable songs!!)

The center’s mood also lightened with the jazzed up bays as each LOB showed creativity and spatial design skills in building their superhero headquarters. Some even performed a short skit during the presentation which was very entertaining – I wish I could’ve seen those.

Yzza: Minz lika Sali tayo. Tayo ang taong bayan. (in short: "extra"/cameo - taong bayan na issave ni Batman (Zeki) from Joker(Lem))

Amongst the notable bay decors, I was personally impressed with the life-size red telephone booth! I’m obsessed with Red Telephone Booths! (side note – Whistlestop West Gate, booth walang telephone) And of course there was dancing (and yes, only via Kinect, but that still constituted as dancing; maybe Guitar Hero next year for the non-dancers) and then cake! And speaking of cake, people also responded positively to the food selection this year. (“nung ICG nag organize, siomai siomai lang”-anonymous; hahah seriously, I didn’t say it, let’s just say, words came from someone close to me) SNR chicken for the win – extra rice please! One of the main highlights of the occasion was the spectacle of superhero costumes. How often do you see your manager donning a wig and a cape? Even impressive cardboard cutouts to make Batman come to life!  Nice one Zeki and Aya!

This event was a hit not just because of the people who organized it. Everyone contributed to the success of this year’s CSAW. The bar was set pretty high and I’m sure people will look forward to more successful events at our site in the future.

6 years in Verizon and this is by far the most memorable CS week I have ever experienced. (This is my) first time to wear a costume too in my entire life.” - Boss Chow

Coming from CS week committee, the participation of the employees was overwhelming. True to its theme, we made impact” - Jacee

"Starbucks? Di pa ko nakakain nito dati, pero masarap!” - Anonymous

The food was great! Games were challenging, and everyone participated in the bay decorations which showed team work of different groups” - Mr. Pacio

Rape that PLAY button

I get giddy-kind-of-happy when I discover “new” songs that I like. I don’t really go on MTV nor listen to FM radio that much lately. Some are found via the GirlTalk forum, some are from friend’s playlist.  Anyway, I don’t know how to get to my point. I’ll just list the songs that I keep on replaying these days.

1.       Lullabies  -- Yuna

2.       Wait for me – Kings of Leon

3.       The face – Kings of Leon

4.       Wings – Birdy

5.       Pilit – Hilera

I actually don’t have em saved yet, but thanks Spotify and Grooveshark! J

Boycott Sbarro's Red Velvet cake!

I'm a fan of Sbarro and also Red Velvet cup/cakes. But Sbarro's Red Velvet is such a disappointment *smh*
The layer cake was dry and crumbly. I also didn't like the way it tasted. And the frosting -- oh the frosting, it tasted like plastic! I don't eat plastic haha, but that's how it registered in my brain.

Man was I looking forward for a yummy cake today. Tsk! Should've ordered the cheesecake instead, This is so depressing.

Dream Chronicle 110914sun

Last night I had a dream. I was in an amusement park with an old friend. I don't know why I was with him, I haven't seen him nor talked to him in awhile.
We were running towards the huge ferris wheel and found ourselves to be next in line.
As I rode what appears like a capsule seat, I held on the bar in front of me. The wheel started to turn and as I approach the top of the wheel, I can see that I'm far away from the ground. I looked down and saw below me that the wheel appeared as if it was built above the water; and all I can see is blue. People and tents appeared so small; I felt I've reached thousands of feet above the ground; like how your view would be looking out to your window when in an airplane.
I felt scared, but I didnt want for it to stop. Few more turns and then I got scared.

I dont remember what happened next; I may have awaken.
I've read that dreaming about a Ferris wheel means that you're dissatisfied with how things are going round and round in your life.
And Heights means - you fear that you're desiring for something that appears unreachable
Water - state of emotion. In my dream the water appeared somewhat calm, it had tiny waves like there's breeze blowing above it.

I think it sums up all the things I've been thinking about lately.
I'm kind of skeptical with dream interpretation, but for the website that I based it on, it was spot on - except for the friend part. I did not really see much of relevance. Oh well, dreams are just dreams.

I am too sentimental and I don’t know why I describe myself that way coz there are also a lot of things that I forget. This rant will go online and aside from just reading it, in the future I will have something to either:
a)      be proud of
b)      embarrass myself with
c)       wonder what the hell is going on with my life at the age of 27
It’s a slow day today in the office. I’m grateful because most days are just brutal. So I’ll just do some random rambling that doesn’t really connect nor would be of relevance to society or anyone reading this.
I recently moved in LP. I have 2 housemates – who I barely see: Tata Dear and Knolan Dear. I think I heard footsteps earlier this morning, but I was too lazy to get out of bed to check or maybe I was just dreaming.
So,,, new place:
PROS:
SIGNAL! – I get to maximize my mobile plan and not have to go outside of the house for cell reception!
There’s a fridge – I can buy veggies and cook them at a later time. I can also store leftovers
There’s TV – not that I’m too thrilled to have TV, I can actually live without it, but it’s nice to have
Space! – It’s a two-story apartment, and the living area is quite spacious- I can work out here!
Other furniture – like sofa, dining table etc.

CONS:
Stairs – the steps are too steep, I’m always afraid of falling down (not that I can fall upwards)
True MLA Weather – it gets really hot upstairs especially in the afternoon, unlike at my place in Summitville, it’s an apartment building and I’m on the 2nd of 4 floors and sandwiched between 2 other tall buildings so the sun can’t really reach my room, but the wind can ~ how nice right?
Exposure – it doesn’t feel too private coz we’re along the main road
Utility bills – okay, I highly doubt I’d get a Php 0 in my electricity bill this time. Aww I miss not having to pay for electricity ;p

Now I intended to talk about different things going on in my life, but I kinda got tired so I'll just talk about other people and other stuff.
1. Two of my close friends are preggo ~ Doe Zoey-mommy and Minzypie
2. Viber - thanks for the groupchat! I enjoy chatting with my friends who I don't see so often
3. Abs, why so difficult to achieve?!
4. Ellen Adarna is so hot, I have her #NakedTruth campaign photo as my lockscreen to serve as my Fitspiration
5. No. 4 is still kind of talking bou me, I guess so is no. 3

I'll stop here.

La Union Soul Surf 2014

One of the best weekends ever! San Juan La Union I love you forever!
I dont remember how I knew about this event, probably coz of the people I follow on Social Media. Yeah I think that's it. I think I saw a video of the band Soju or maybe Salamin. I can't recall, but I guess that's okay coz Soju and Salamin involved (back then) fairly similar people.
I thought it would be fun to go to an event like that since I love the beach and I like music. Not much on the surfing but music by the beach was already tempting.
And then again Social Media ~ I saw a post and found out that DISHWALLA will be playing. I cannot miss it! Technically, I can  (I did actually, but we'll get to that later), but it would be nice to actually be there. Thank God that one of my bestfriends was also interested in going. Sooooo, being the lakwatsera that we are, I made arrangements, emailed back and forth with the production company - Beep! and voila two tickets to #SoulSurf2014 ♥

HOW TO GO TO SAN JUAN LA UNION:

I don't know how else to, but I'll tell you what we did to get there. We took a bus (via Partas Transport in Aurora Ave in Cubao) headed to Laoag and got off right in front of the resort we booked.
So easy right?

Ass hurt a little bit tho, I didn't get bored coz my friend and I did a lot of catching up, plus boyfriend loaded some episodes of the Big Bang Theory in a flash drive. I didnt get to watch all of it, I actually enjoyed looking out the window. I barely slept on our way there. It was a 6.5 hour trip, inlcuding a 20-30 min stopover in Sison, Pangasinan.

#SoulSurf2014

We stayed at Costa Villa I don't really have much to say about the resort. It was a nice place to sleep at, that's just about it. Oh and also, kuya who's working in the kitchen seems nice.

The actual event was held at Urbiztondo beach in front of Kahuna Beach Resort.  Since we arrived almost 10pm Friday evening, we didn't bother going to Kahuna. Instead we had pizza and drinks at Flotsam and Jetsam. Oh FnJ, I need a separate blog entry to proclaim my love for you! ♥ I wish we couldve stayed there, but they're fully booked by the time I was making arrangements with the production company.
But heres a few that I'd like to say:
1. I miss Gusgus
2. Flotjet Style Sling is ♥ ~ sort of like my Sangria from Café Mary Grace but with booze (means perfect right?)
3. Yummy pizza and chicken, and I guess the rest of the stuff on the menu, but the pizza and the chicken were my favorite!
4. I can live here forever!

Day 2

We had breakfast at Kahuna and given that the resort is kinda fancy, that means it was also pricey (rhyme was not intentional). We walked along the shores of Urbiztondo Beach and the waves is inviting. We didn't try to surf on our 2nd day, but did enjoy beer by the shore. I know we drank a lot that weekend! We tried to look for some souvenirs but I guess it was still early and most of the stores were closed. So we headed back to our room and walked on the road side, aaaaand ding ding ding ~ stumbled upon a crush ♥ yiieeee ~ Eo Marcos of Kjwan by the sari sari store bothered by a fan girl refraining her kilig! "Eo pwede magpa-picture?" I don't remember what his answer was, I was already drifing away to kiligerland. And my IG post, gosh that's a totally different story.

Back at Costa Villa, we dipped in the (mini)pool and enjoyed an afternoon swim. The sun is just brutal and strong currents makes it scary to swim at the beach; also it is prohibited by the resort.

I went back to Flotsam and Jetsam that afternoon coz I couldn't sleep. We were supposed to nap so we have the energy later that night. That was when I had the yummy chicken. I should've added:
5. Tons of chicks at FnJ
I was sitting by the bar just watching Allan (or Raymond? God I forgot sorry!!) the bartender run a one-man show. Girls following up on their orders started talking to me. I hope I did not look lonely. I was having a great time even by myself. Just being there, I was in awe. The place is beautiful. I dont think they put anything in my chicken that was not supposed to be there, but man I was happy that afternoon. And I had beer and another FJ Sling, so got hammered, and found the sleep that I was looking for.

That evening, DJs or Spinner (?) I dont know the correct term to use, but the sounds that night at the event was more techno, so we couldnt really relate, wasnt our "type" so we went back to the room early. Also we wanted to make sure we'd be able to get up early for our Surfing lessons!
Right before goin to bed, we did a little bit of star-gazing by the beach near Costa Villa. The sky was pefect! I saw 7 shooting stars and I think I should really wish something incredible.

Day 3

Php 400 for an hour of Surf lessons. I think it's a standard rate. I absolutely didn't expect I'd survive, but we're already in San Juan, must try it. It'll be a shame if we dont. Kuya Tisoy was my instructor. He's a local and used to compete. I've read some stuff online before I found the courage to actually try. Truth is, I don't know how to swim; to tread actually. I can float, do breast stroke, back stroke - slight chance of drowning if I try freestyle but treading, no, not really. I found out that, beginners lesson would start somewhere shallow where instructors would still be able to be on his feet. So yey! That's all I needed to know and just have the instructor teach me.
Attempted several times and failed and when finally I was able to stand and ride the waves, I was so elated - one of the best experience ever! Like I said I didnt expect much, so being able to stand on the board was an accomplishment for me! Of course I fell again on the next try. It was exhausting to try to get back on the board, the waves was like an angry bitch pulling and pushing you just because she can. But it was a fantastic experience. I'm really looking forward to trying to learn again.

Yummy breakfast at Fatwave Resort! Just the energy we needed after our surfing lessons.

But I guess surfing didnt take all our energy! We had a little side trip to San Fernando, La Union (SFLU). The place felt familiar for some reason I will not disclose. We saw the church and the plaza; walked around the market place and headed back to San Juan.

A little bit of rest and we're back to party! We walked along the shore and laid a sarong to sit on. We just watched the waves and adore the sunset! I need more synonyms for the word "beautiful" ♥ At this point I was already thinking of going back even just for the weekend - even if I was alone. My heart and San Juan La, Union is connected forever!

Weather can be a bitch sometimes. But we already know that. We also know that in a tropical country like ours, it's either sunny or rainy! Main event some techno dudes played, I enjoyed some of the other performances of artists that I dont remember the names. I'm really sorry, I should pay more attention to faces and names. But I remembered SINYMA coz the vox is a hot chick, and sometimes I wonder if I have a tendency to be a lipstick lesby. Anyway Jess Connelly of Sinyma is absolutely beautiful and I think that sky was a little jealous of her, so it started to pour some rain on everyone at the event. And there's the wind. Ending ~ the stage and the equipments got wet. And of course this happened right before Kjwan and Dishwalla was scheduled to play!!!!!!!
Ugh timing is such a bitch! And again, tropical country, production team should already know that there's always the possibility of rain in the Philippines! Why was the stage not secured.
People were left in the rain and started chanting "Dishwalla! Dishwalla!".  Why wouldn't they? It was the main act, at least for me and I guess the people who were chanting.
Okay, mishaps can happen, but the most disappointing part for me was NO ONE FROM BEEP! PRODUCTION MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT whatsoever. Just left the people there who PAID and travelled drenched and clueless! So appalling. Not cool *smh*
I'd really love to tell you more about our disappointement but I guess you can just visit their Facebook page for that.

I really wish it did not end that way. Despite that, I'd still consider going back to San Juan for next year's Soul Surf.  I know they're trying to make it up for the ticket-holders by sending Dishwalla back to Manila this month - no date yet, but hopefully I can come.
Still because of the beauty of San Juan, La Union and the fun I had with Lj I really consider this as one of the most memorable weekends for this year!
Like what we kept on saying "may isusulat ka na sa diary mo".

You are what you read: Jessica Zafra

I just started re-reading my copy of Twisted 9 by Jessica Zafra. I don't remember much of it when I read it the first time, all I know is I gave up on it because I didnt't appreciate it for many reasons.
One of which was I think her choice of words are only for people whose got the same rich vocabulary as her (see, I used the word rich-- there must be another adjective to use other than "rich" ugh!). Seriously, I wish I know the meaning of all the words in the book. I do google them sometimes when my phone is at reach while I'm reading.
But I really love the way she tells her story. I wish I can write like that. I have many desires and I think I set a security question somewhere that asks what my dream job is and the answer is to be a writer. Anyway, I am enjoying the book so far, but I got to the tennis stories part and maybe, just maybe this was where I stopped before. I don't know if I'll ever be a sports fan.

Boxing Adventure

So nag start mag boxing ang mga officemates ko few months back. At dahil inggitera ako nakisali din ako. Wala kasi talaga akong activities.

Chucks na lang ang closest to rubbershoes na meron ako - which is super inappropriate for running/workout. Nag jogging kami ni Ali nang naka chucks ako, although that's a different story. LOL. So ayun nga wala akong sneakers, sabi ni Ali gift nya daw yung sneakers for my birthday (April). So hinintay ko muna shoesie before mag attempt punta Boxing Gym.
We go to ELORDE Southbox sa Seaside Daang-hari. Sa Starmall Alabang, may mga multicab going to Molino, dun ako sumasakay to get to Seaside Daanghari. If coming from LP, I guess you can  just wait sa kanto ng Honda para sa mga dadaan papasok ng daanghari.

For walk-in/non-members Php 250 ang bayad per session - includes boxing trainer for an hour then use of the facilities hanggat gusto mo. Ewan na lang sa katawang lupa mo kung ilang oras mo gusto. Php 150 for members. Annual Membership fee is Php 700
They also offer Muay Thai and Kickboxing, but I dont remember the rates.

So when I started, na-set na ng friend ko expectation na may mga "routine". Jog muna, then stretching - trainer will guide you. Skip ropes. Jumping Jacks ~~ ayan mga ganon. At sabi ko nga Im so out of shape. I swear ang mga 3 min interval na mga yun, feels like 10 minutes to me!
Nagsawa si kuyang trainer sa tanong ko: "Kuya tapos na?". I then realized na may timer sa gym na na-set off every 3 minutes.

Can I just say, Speedball is my Flappy Bird! Hindi ko talaga makuha yung tamang lakas ng suntok and yung rhythm.

Nag enjoy naman ako kahit dalawang beses pa lang ako nakapag boxing LOL. Okay. Promise babalik na talaga ako!

Semantic satiation (also semantic saturation) is a psychological phenomenon in which repetition causes a word or phrase to temporarily lose meaning for the listener, who then processes the speech as repeated meaningless sounds.

Birthday Gunpowder Party

Party with gunpowder!

It's my 27th birthday and I decided to do something else rather than the usual handaan/inuman with friends.
I've long been looking for another firing range, preferably closer after my first try in Foren in Naic, Cavite. When I found out that there's an indoor firing range in Festival Mall, I knew that it would be a nice way to celebrate my birthday.
Jethro Shooting Range is at the 3rd fl of Festival Mall; just right outside Ace Hardware. They have a website although they didn't put the prices of the fees, I'll just list what we paid for:

•Range Fee -Php 300 per person
•Gun Rental -Php 250 (we shared a 9mm gun)
•Ammunition -Php 12.50 per bullet

Their website:

I had a really good time. Although I kinda liked my experience with Foren better; maybe because kuya who was assisting us there was more thorough in discussing gun handling. But oh well this was still fun!

The Fault in our Stars Review

One of the main reasons why I decided to read this book is because I know a film is coming out. This is my come-back (to reading) book and my first from John Green.
I didn't have any kind of expectation -- I didn't read the synopsis and didn't watch the trailer. I must say, I was entertained and was very impressed.
The story is about 2 cancer patient teens-- Hazel and Augustus; how they go about their day to day life surving cancer, interaction with their families and how they formed their own infinity.
I got hooked right away actually --
"Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed,".
The way the lines are delivered is intelligent but not difficult to understand. One of my favorites is
"Above us, the wind blew and the branching shadows rearranged themselves on our skin. " Can't point a finger but that was memorable for me.
Another one is: "My thoughts are stars i can't fathom into constellations"
These are the kinds of lines I wish I wrote.
I have never felt so much for a book. I laughed, got excited, got curious, got heart-broken, I cried -- and cried some more.
I don't know much about classifying books or identifying a particular genre, but I think this book will surely entertain a wide range of audience.
This is definitely a must-read.
