Sa Wakas: A Pinoy Rock Musical

This is not a review of the show. Ikkwento ko lang how the experience was for me. I was going to say na unang musical play to na napanood ko, but there was one show I saw in college.
So I have this “30 Things..” na I think I mentioned in my previous post. Seeing a play was one of the items on my list. So I checked out clickthecity to see what’s coming up and glad to find this show.
I had no expectation. I didn’t read about it, other than what is on their official website.
I really thought we will be late for the show! Kumain pa kasi sa Manam in Greenbelt – side story – haay talagang ang kulet ko. Almost 2pm na at waiting to be seated pa din kami, nag abang talaga ako. Pero ayun thank you Grab Car and no traffic on a Sunday afternoon, umabot naman kami. Some people didn’t make it on time – kaya na-instorbo panonood namin sa lakad lakad while the show was running. I would be more upset if we got there sooner, pero ayaw ko umattitude, we were almost late nga rin.

As soon as the characters started singing, natuwa agad ako! Na-impress ako sa singing prowess nila. Duh! Musical – shempre magagaling sila kumanta. Siguro kasi yung mga kanta kanta lang sa TV and gigs ang napapanood ko. Iba pala talaga pag theater! Ang galing how they used the stage, the perfect timeg,m errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr- 0iuuuuu
~~ Sorry. Kitten typing on the keyboard.
I was saying – perfect timing ng lights sa bagsak ng kanta, yung delivery ng lines and punchlines. It must feel really good para sa artists, playwright, and director kapag naririnig nila yung reaction ng audience- every laughter, every “aww” of dismay whenever Lexi belittles Topper; the “whoa’s” and the “tsk tsk’s” at Topper’s actions and choices. I, of very little knowledge in theater, would say that is one of the things that makes a successful show – engaging your audience. And more than that, it is also about where the story took our feelings. How we can relate to the characters and their situation.
The music of Sugarfree was of course an advantage for the show; marami talaga puede hugutin sa lyrics. “Oh kay tagal din kitaang minahaaaalllllll…mamahaliiiiihiiiiinn..” Diba?more more hugot.  The songs were played live marvelously by an orchestra or a band? – not sure wha is the correct term –ilang piraso lang sila. But, may conductor, so I would say orchestra. There were a few“technical difficulties” but to a minimal.

The show was held at Power MAC Center Spotlight in Circuit Makati. Full house on a Sunday afternoon – yehey for Filipino arts scene! I read that all shows were sold out. Congratulations!  The play was fantastic! They had my undivided attention for 3 hours (with intermission). Thank you producers for bringing Sa Wakas back! It was a wonderful experience for me.
